About The Receiving & Returns Clerk 

This job is a full-time position, working behind the scenes. We need someone who is organized and efficient, who is enthusiastic about books, and has a keen eye for data and details. Some retail and/or data entry background is encouraged. 



  • Work closely with the Inventory Manager to receive new books into the store and return overstock books to the publishers. 

  • Organize and unpack boxes arriving every weekday, type invoices into the POS system, keep close track of customer orders, and direct books out onto the shelves. 

  • Manage shortages and damages, processing and reporting them each day. 

  • Pack up boxes of books, type packing slips, create shipping labels, keep close track of vendor information. 

  • Carry large boxes of books up and down stairs each day. 

  • Work independently on daily, weekly, and monthly tasks and goals, while communicating progress with managers. 

  • Work at Watermark from 8:30-5:00 Monday through Friday, with flexibility to work some evenings and weekends on occasion. 

  • Be able to focus on minute details and be able to switch gears from returns to receiving, and back again each day. 


All bookstore staff must also spend time helping customers on the floor as needed, and must be prepared to: 

  • Work with customers and sell books on the sales floor 

  • Assist with in-house and out-of-house author readings 

  • Understand how orders are processed online as needed to assist customer interaction 

  • Enter special orders and holds  

  • Writing and posting reviews 

  • Shelving books and keeping the store looking fresh and tidy 



  • High School diploma. College Degree is a plus. 

  • Prior experience working with data entry, or in retail. 

  • Experience working with computers, POS or data organization systems. 

  • Proficiency typing numbers using ten key. 

  • Strong written, verbal, and overall communication skills. 

  • Excellent multitasker able to work both independently and on a team. 

  • Be able to work regularly between the Friday after Thanksgiving to January 4th 

  • Must love people and books 

  • Be comfortable with appearance in social media photos and videos 

  • Access to a reliable vehicle and have a valid driver’s license 

  • Be comfortable with technology

  • Starting wage for this position is $11-13/hour. 

  • Paid vacation time after one year of employment.
