The Knockout Queen by Rufi Thorpe, review by Hannah Reidell

The Knockout Queen is one of the most addictive reads of this year. Once you pick this book up, you’ll find yourself caught by the voice of the narrator Michael and won’t be able to put down the book until you finish it.

Rufi Thorpe has done an excellent job of writing a story about a world that we all know exists but that many of us don’t experience. A world where alcoholism, domestic abuse, and jail are everyday experiences.

Yet, this is not a depressing or dark book. Michael and Bunny are both engaging characters, and moving through the novel from their perspectives keeps the book light and enjoyable.

This is a book that I didn’t know I needed to read. This is a book I didn’t know needed to be written. But this is definitely a book that will open your eyes and make you think.

This is your summer book. Now go read.
