Watermark Books & Cafe will host author Leonard Pitts on Saturday, October, 17 at 4:00 p.m. for a reading and signing of Grant Park.
Grant Park begins in 1968, with Martin Luther King Jr.'s final dayin Memphis. The story then moves to the eve of the 2008 presidential election, and ricochets between the two eras as it unfolds. Disillusioned and outraged by yet another report of unarmed black men gunned down by police, esteemed journalist Malcolm Toussaint surreptitiously posts an incendiary column that leads to the ouster of his longtime white editor, Bob Carson, and Toussaint's own mysterious disappearance. Carson and Toussaint subsequently become entangled in a dangerous plot surrounding Barack Obama's election-night rally in Chicago, which leads to both confronting choices they made during their work in the civil rights movement 40 years prior.
