Independent Bookstore Day

Get excited for the fourth annual celebration of Independent Bookstores, and please plan to join us on Saturday, April 28 for some activities and giveaways.

Bookstores are unique plances in the cahos and hubbub of our modern times. They are places wehre you can come to disconnect, relax, and enjoy a moment of silence, yet simultaneously they are also places where you can feel more engaged with and informed about the world around you.

Here's what's happening at Watermark Books on April 28, 2018:

10:30 a.m. Storytime with Melissa
10:30 a.m. Storytime and author talk with Troy James Weaver

1:00 p.m. Make your own Golden Book for children ages 4-7. What story do you have to tell? Join us for a session for ages 4 and up to make their own book inspired by the classic Golden Books. Yes, those books you read as a child, read to your children; the books that live through generations. This creative activity will result in a book that will be treasured as well. We will also have additional activities around these treasured books!

1:00-2:30 p.m. Silkscreen printing of Lindsey Yankey design by Brad Ruder of Tilt Union. Join Lindsey Yankey, the world class children's book writer and illustrator of Bluebird and Sun and Moon, and Brad Ruder, a silkscreen printer, to see an original print specially designed for Independent Bookstore Day.

4:00-5:00 p.m. Showcase of University Press of Kansas.  Learn from acquisitions editor Kelly Hogeland about the process of publishing academic and books about Kansas.   Author Event with Max McCoy, George Frazier, Mark Eberle and CJ Janovy.  Authors McCoy, Frazier, Eberle, and Janovy will briefly speak and answer questions, then sign books.  McCoy is the author of Elevations, Frazier is the author of The Last Wild Places of Kansas, Eberle is the author of Kansas Baseball, 1858-1941, and Janovy is the author of No Place Like Home: Lessons in Activism from LGBT Kansas.
