Cross/Over Book Club

The selection for this meeting is Scythe by Neal Shusterman.

Meeting Date:  the third Thursday of each month

Time:  6:00 p.m.

Place:  Watermark Cafe

Leader:  Kate Schreffler

The Cross/Over Book Club reads books marketed to young adults but perfect for any reader.  It is open to 8th graders and up who want to read and discuss some of the best books written for teenagers.  But adults are definitely welcome!  We will read across genres--contemporary, romance, speculative fiction, graphic novels, and the occasional "adult" book--and discuss them on the third Thursday of every month at 6 p.m.  Watermark bookseller Kate Schreffler will lead the discussion.

A Short Introduction to Cross/Over Book Club:

1.  What book has been your group's favorite selection this past year?  Why?  Turtles All the Way Down by John Green.  Everyone loves John Green!  So a new book of his will always draw a crowd.  Green has struggled with severe anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder for about as long as he can remember. He keeps it in check with medication and therapy, but every once in a while, it consumes him.  So when his protagonist in Turtles All the Way Down must deal with a similar disorder, he knows what he's writing about!  John Green's books are always very relatable.

2.  How would you describe your book club to a prospective member?  We read any and all Young Adult literature.  Some of the best authors are currently writing in this genre.  Cross/Over Book Club is for all ages; in fact, we strongly encourage adults to participate.  We're loud and excited about YA books!
