A Short Introduction to the Books in Translation Book Club:

1. What book has been your group's favorite selection this past year?  Why?  This would be a toss-up between Shelter in Place by Alexander Maksik and Grand Hotel by Vicki Baum.  Both are fluid and give sensitive portrayals of individuals at their most vulnerable times but also portray the dedication and humanity of the wounded as they reach out to sustain others.

2. How would you describe your book club to a prospective member?  In a society of increasing diversity, we are confronted with more and more that is unfamiliar.  The Books in Translation Book Club gives us an opportunity to experience new authors from foreign countries with the potential to gain insight into different cultures and to become more globally aware.
