This beautiful hard cover, full color picture book displays intimate photographs of fifty artists at work, or at least pictured in the places where they work. There are emerging artists. And artists who have careers that stretch back forty or even fifty years. Landscape painters and fiber artists, sculptors and photographers, ceramicists and installation artists - all of them have found a place in Wichita to make art. The studios range from purpose-built free-standing structures to tiny spaces carved out in basements. This book is an invitation to step into the world of the artist, because – admit it – you’ve always been curious.
SONDRA LANGEL Like her two other books, Wichita Artists in Their Studio and Thursday Afternoon Cooking Club, Langel’s newest work came from her desire to learn and tell stories. All of collecting is a testament to dedication and perseverance, and also hunt for treasure. In this book, Langel honors those whose authentic passion she was able to capture. LARRY SCHWARM One of the reasons Schwarm became a photographer was to collect memories through images. Like many of the collectors in this book, he is a collector of collections, including the tramp art seen here. He has collaborated with Langel on two previous books, and has photographs in art museum collections throughout the United States, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

WICHITA ARTISTS IN THEIR STUDIOS is an absolutely fabulous book. The photography by Larry Schwarm is spectacular and the descriptions of the artists’ studios by Sondra Langel are exceptional. I thoroughly enjoyed getting a peak onto the lives of some of Wichita's most creative residents. Everyone who enjoys the arts will delight in seeing not only the work of the artists, but also seeing where the artists work.
