Update: Cancelled
With great disappointment, we have to announce that tonight's event with John Scalzi has been canceled due to a transportation issue. We are incredibly sorry for any inconvenience. We are in conversation with the publishers to find another date in the next few weeks to potentially reschedule this event with John. We will notify you if a new date is set and you all will be the first to know. Thank you for your support of Watermark and our events, we will still have more events with incredible authors in the future as well in the meantime.
Sincerely,

Watermark is very glad to welcome bestselling and award-winning Sci-Fi author John Scalzi. Known for his widely popular Old Man's War and The Last Colony. He will be at Watermark celebrating his latest book Starter Villain which follows a man Charlie who does not quite have his life together but when his long-lost uncle dies he inherits his uncle's supervillain business. Not knowing exactly how to be a supervillain Charlie must figure it out quickly to win the war that his uncle started against a league of supervillains. John Scalzi will be at Watermark Books and Cafe on Thursday, September 21st at 6 PM CST. He will be here doing a discussion about the book, a Q&A with the audience, and a book signing after. We hope to see you there and let your friends and family know. You can RSVP on Eventbrite using the button below. While it is not required to RSVP for this event, RSVPing helps us know how many will attend to prepare the proper seating arrangement.
About the Book:
Inheriting your uncle's supervillain business is more complicated than you might think. Particularly when you discover who's running the place.
Charlie's life is going nowhere fast. A divorced substitute teacher living with his cat in a house his siblings want to sell, all he wants is to open a pub downtown if only the bank will approve his loan.
Then his long-lost uncle Jake dies and leaves his supervillain business (complete with island volcano lair) to Charlie.
But becoming a supervillain isn't all giant laser death rays and lava pits. Jake had enemies, and now they're coming after Charlie. His uncle might have been a stand-up, old-fashioned kind of villain, but these are the real thing: rich, soulless predators backed by multinational corporations and venture capital.
It's up to Charlie to win the war his uncle started against a league of supervillains. But with unionized dolphins, hyper-intelligent talking spy cats, and a terrifying henchperson at his side, going bad is starting to look pretty good.
In a dog-eat-dog world...be a cat.
