Reading this book was a great way to start out 2011! "The Tiger's Curse" has been compared to "Twilight" and Harry Potter. I don't feel that the book falls into the same class as those books, but I did find this book to be a wonderful read. The book is mostly fantasy but has elements of realism, history, mythology and romance wrapped into it.

The story goes something like this; Ren, a young Indian Prince, has been cursed and is to spend eternity as a Tiger - that is until he meets Kelsey. Kelsey is the only person who can lift the curse placed on Ren. Kelsey and Ren meet when Kelsey starts working for a circus that is traveling through her town. Kelsey knows there is something different about the Tiger, Ren, but is not sure what. When Mr. Kadam, the voice of reason in the book, purchases Ren from the circus he asks Kelsey to travel with them. Kelsey agrees and the adventure begins. Kelsey learns Ren's story and together they work to lift the curse.

To say that Ren and Kelsey encounter obstacles a long the way sells the story short. The story is fast paced and each obstacle they face is difficult and many have a link to mythology. The ending of the book left me anxious for the second book in the series, "The Tiger's Quest," which will be released later this year. I am anxious to learn how this unlikely duo, Ren and Kelsey, find the way to piece together an Indian prophecy, free a man from a centuries old curse and discover their destiny.
