"Jennifer Johnson
is Sick of Being Single" by Heather McElhatton (Harper, ISBN 9780061461361,
$13.99)
Biting wit and true-to-life observations of Heather McElhatton's fourth
novel make "Jennifer Johnson is Sick of Being Single" an entertaining read.
The title says it all: Jennifer Johnson is sick of being single. She's a
31-year-old marketing advisor for a mom-and-pop everything store. She's come
up with clever slogans for excess shipments of plus-size panties at the
Panty Jubilee, as well as the hip and trendy gem-bejeweled Jymnastic
athletic shoes. Briefly put, she's in a dead-end job she doesn't enjoy. Her
only real joys in life are devouring Cinnabons, playing with her miniature
house & its random, collectible residents (the awkward situations she puts
these "residents" through are hilarious), and her cat, Mrs. Biggles. She's
done everything to keep from being single (online dating, blind dates--the
works!), but on Valentine's Day she's got two weddings to attend with no
date. Her life has to change.
Enter Brad Keller. Brad is everything Jennifer ever dreamed of: he's smart,
successful, enjoys her company, and doesn't really mind her Cinnabon
obsession.
What ensues is a life-changing course of events that makes Jennifer question
what she really believes are the most important things in life. And while
some of her decisions had this reader questioning her values, the honesty of
McElhatton's writing is touching.
