A Conjuring of Light (Shades of Magic #3) (Hardcover)
The third in VE Schwab's Shades of Magic trilogy, A Conjuring of Light is a quick-paced read. Not only do Kell's, Lila's, and Rhy's stories get fleshed out, but so also do Alucard's and Holland's. Through masterful and well-placed flashbacks, Schwab manages to imbue these other characters with motivation that is believable and compelling. The enemies of the Maresh throne must work together to defeat an embodiment of the purest, most elemental magic, an osoch.
What readers have come to love about Schwab's writing is her ability to infuse her characters with real chemistry; Schwab has truly mastered the elements here - just as her characters have learned to master the magic they wield.
Much to my delight, Kell’s and Lila's relationship continues to develop (as does Alucard's and Rhy's), as Lila figures out her true strength as an Antari. Rhy must figure out his strength as crown prince, while also battling what it means to have his life (and his death) tethered to someone else. And Kell learns what it means to be more than one person's perfect compliment. Each character in A Conjuring of Light navigates his own path, but ultimately their paths converge as they shape a future together; Schwab has conjured an apt closing to her ever-popular trilogy. I didn't want it to end.— Shelly Walston
Witness the fate of beloved heroes and notorious foes in the heart-stopping conclusion to V.E. Schwab's New York Times bestselling Shades of Magic trilogy.
*Kirkus' Best Fiction of 2017*
As darkness sweeps the Maresh Empire, the once precarious balance of power among the four Londons has reached its breaking point.
In the wake of tragedy, Kell--once assumed to be the last surviving Antari--begins to waver under the pressure of competing loyalties. Lila Bard, once a commonplace--but never common--thief, has survived and flourished through a series of magical trials. But now she must learn to control the magic, before it bleeds her dry.
An ancient enemy returns to claim a city while a fallen hero tries to save a kingdom in decay. Meanwhile, the disgraced Captain Alucard Emery of the Night Spire collects his crew, attempting a race against time to acquire the impossible.
